Just how expensive ARE Cuban cigars?

ANSWER: for a US citizen traveling outside the US, up to $250,000 (plus the cost of the cigar). And no, I'm not kidding.

I have been reviewing an Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo, Mexico message board in preparation for our coming honeymoon and was highly skeptical when I read this:

You may be aware that the US government is willing to send its citizens to jail for up to 10 years and fine them $250,000 for puffing on a Cuban stogie while on vacation in Mexico or Canada?

So I checked the link referenced in the post (.PDF from The US Dept. of the Treasury) and found it to be entirely accurate.

Ponder that for a second...
