What's the Best Way to Learn Guitar in 3 Months?

I have a mission trip coming up in mid-September and there’s a need for someone to lead singing/worship, preferably with a guitar. I’ve been wanting to learn guitar for a long time, but just haven’t been disciplined in sticking with it, and this would obviously be a good time.

So, particularly for you guitar players out there, how realistic is it that I could pick up just the basics in time, and what’s the best method to do so? Lessons? Watch YouTube guitarists? Forget the guitar and buy a ghetto blaster? Help me out!

Thanks in advance!

  1. I’d say the easiest way to the learn the basics is find someone you know who plays the guitar to show you how to play three chords: G, C, and D. You can play almost any worship song with these three chords. Then just practice them over and over, strumming different patterns for hours a day. You can do it!

  2. Hey Nate,
I link to your blog from time to time from Brett and Shannon’s. You all must be excited for your little niece’s arrival.

As for your question, it reminded me of a gal I met in California at the post office when we were in line with about 20 people in front of us. Maybe this would help?:

  3. Hey Nate. First time on your blog-site…very nice. I learned the guitar in high school when someone taught me the basic notes as mentioned on your first comment. And then, I learned more and more…
There are a number of people I’m sure at Wellspring that would lend you a hand, but if you stay after church one time I can definitely teach you the first three to get you started. In case your wondering I’m Hannah’s sister =)
