Praise You in This Storm

I was blessed to hear this song on the radio yesterday. It's entitled "Praise You in This Storm", by the group Casting Crowns. As I said to some friends earlier, the lyrics are convicting, helpful, and hard.

There's an unexpected, tearful, real comfort there. I guess that's what rings true with this song - it's an honest acknowledgement of heartfelt pain and the simultaneous existence and providence of God, even as faint as His voice may seem in these times.

Even though He holds every tear, each one stings - often excruciatingly. I don't think God expects us to grin and bear it in these times - I think He expects us to feel real, deep pain - to be heartbroken to the core. It's only then, in desperation, do I cry out to Him as the only help I have left.

  1. Amen Brother that is the Best song ever. a couple of months ago we had trouble in our family and that song helped me so much because it shows us that even in the toughest times we still need to praise and thank God.

  4. While I’ve never experienced what you’re going through, but when I go through things I can’t possibly imagine I’ll be able to survive, this song always pops in my head (it’s even the ringtone on my phone!). Hopefully it’ll help you out too:

  5. Hey Nate, just wanted you to be encouraged to remember that we’re praying for you guys. I was just thinking and reading and came across these verses.
    Romans 11:33-36
    “Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgements and how inscrutable His ways! For who has known the mind of the Lord, or who has been His counselor? Or who has given a gift to him that he might be repaid? For from him and through him and to him are all things. To Him be glory forever.”
    Just keep falling more in love with the Lord- He desires your all.

  6. Nate, I know, you know, that I can imagine what this must feel like. I want you to know that the depths of despair and pain you must feel are not without a purpose. And I can only submit that you might never waste the trials we must endure as Christians, even in the face of our seemly innocent contributions to the turmoil. Just a Christ modeled, love will weather any storm and destory all sin. I pray it be your hearts desire to simply love, as you suffer. Love that which is unlovable. Love the storm!

  8. Nate – it has been quite a while since we have talked, and for that I am sorry. This news has come as a sad surprise – but I know you are wise and that you only want to give God glory through it all. I have nothing to say, for I have no idea the pain you are going through, but know you are in my prayers, and I think of you and your family often.
